Protecting Environments Through Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Permitting

SESD administers an EPA-approved industrial pretreatment program to ensure industrial facilities within our service area do not discharge harmful pollutants to the sewer system. The program prevents disruptions at our treatment plant or pass throughs that can harm aquatic environments. Industrial facilities in SESD’s service area that are regulated under this program include metal finishers, water treatment facilities, leather finishers, and food production facilities.

SESD’s Sewer Use Regulations (see below) govern all industrial and commercial users and provide the basis for the issuance and enforcement of pretreatment permits. Each year we visit over 500 commercial and industrial facilities to make sure they are following these rules.
